Most Compelling Story - Submitted by Teresa E. Markwith

My adult life has been filled with hardships that many have not endured, including living in homes for several years with no heat through cold Pennsylvania winters, 3 which had no indoor bathrooms. On May 19, 2001, after only being married 7 months, we returned to our house gutted by fire after being away for the weekend. June 2011, I bought another home and in August 2014, was evicted due to my husband’s mental illnesses. Having just undergone surgery July 2, 2014, I could not return to work yet. Having no place to go and no job or money, we had to live in a dirty garage in Harrisburg 4 months — again, no heat and no indoor bathroom.
On January 31, 2015, my then-husband I packed and feet me in 1 of his crazy mental episodes, so now I suffer from slowest and mental retardation. But I still struggle to work and try to support myself at age 59.
To win an RV would be an amazing relief, as then I would not be evicted, and I would not have to pay enormous amounts for apartment rental, and I could finally save a little money for retirement which is not too far away anymore. I live in a body wracked with pain, but also refuse to collect Social Security yet.
