Christmas in a Motorhome will Create more Magical Family Memories

Christmas in a Motorhome will Create more Magical Family Memories

Just because you are in an eight foot RV, does not mean you can’t celebrate Christmas. In fact, spending a holiday with your family in a small space will usually just improve relationships, which in turn, will improve the family time.

With nowhere to run, the entire family is forced to spend quality time together in the RV

Celebrating Christmas in your house entails everyone doing their own things. Depending on the age of the children, some holidays in the house means only getting together to eat breakfast, open gifts and then eat dinner. Perish the thought, but sometimes kids will even spend the entire Christmas holiday with their buddies. When you are in your own home, you could spend all that other time far away from family members.

When the family is in the RV however, quality family time is forced down everyone’s throat. Even if one family member hides in his earphones, with his nose wedged against the screen of his portable Nintendo, they are nearby. Do you remember those awkward teenage years when hanging out with your family was torture? Many kids don’t like family time. Even the angriest puberty-stricken teenager will eventually give in and succumb to family holiday traditions. They don’t have much choice when they are in an RV.

According to an article in The Washington Post, spending time in an RV improves relationships. In the article, a dozen couples were examined that lived together in RVs. The article concluded that living in small spaces improved their marriage and actually made them happier. The “happiness” was the key, considering that living on the road meant a smaller paycheck.

Your RV is a blank canvas, your Christmas lights and the decorations are the paints

Spending the holidays in an RV with the family is a great thing to do. Unless you are Elvis or Wayne Newton, your RV is smaller than your home. As a result, you won’t be using as much Christmas lights. Don’t let this bum you out. Remember that more is less! If you are traveling in your RV, more people will see the Christmas lights on your RV than they would have seen on your house. Therefore, you should take pride in stringing up Christmas lights on your RV.

The inside of your motorhome however, will look a lot like Christmas with the stockings, the Christmas tree and all of those gifts beneath the tree. If you must, go ahead and get a real one. But the holiday set up will be a lot easier and cleaner when you opt to get a fake tree. No watering and no pine needles means an easier holiday!

Decorating the tree is one of the funnest parts of the holiday. However, you are going to need space to bring all of those decorations along. If you want, you can get a fake tree already covered in lights. Also, make sure the artificial tree is small, like four feet, and can easily be moved around the RV.

If you are spending the holiday in your motorhome, make sure to decorate it festively. Stockings with each family member’s name stitched across it and bowls of candy canes are good holiday props. An electric fireplace is an awesome device that can pluck the holiday spirit even out of the grumpiest grinch!

A good chef can make the most delicious holiday meal in the tiniest of kitchens

Let’s not forget about the most important holiday detail – dinner. The kitchen in your motorhome is microscopic compared to the one in your home. But as long as you have a stove top, an oven, a sink and a refrigerator you can make the greatest Christmas dinner this side of the North Pole. Since all your appliances are a bit smaller, the only concession you might need to make is downgrading to a slightly smaller roast.

Even if your RV does not have a kitchen, you can grill some steaks and vegetables at most campgrounds. Nonetheless, a portable grill is relatively inexpensive. Some RVers will swear that the instant pot is their best friend. An instant pot allows RVers to eat for less money while on the road, prepare a delicious dinner easily and allows RVers to enjoy healthy home cooked meals.

Quality family time, decorations and food

What else matters regarding holidays? As long as you are with your family members, eating some yummy food and basking in the light of your bright and beautiful decorations
