Story by Tia Myricks

My story is one of hope, and purpose. As children, we aspire to be great; with dreams of becoming the pride of our parents’ smiling eyes, because we would someday change the world. For most of us, our dreams will outlive us. As though we grew up and were gradually awakened from a deep sleep, and told to deny ourselves of our hopes and fantasies. Without cause or reason, I too, was made to wake up; shaken, only to have my dreams disturbed. Or so I thought…

There comes a time in one’s journey, when they are met with their life’s purpose. A rare moment in time when passion, skill, dedication, desire, growth and the call to duty will collide, giving rise to that greatness we dreamed of, but only for those who are receptive.

After having double surgeries, I looked back on my life and discovered a new perspective. My true purpose in life had been revealed to me in an indescribable majesty; as pure and clear as natural spring water. Every day since, my every thought, movement and desire has been toward that one goal. At age 44, I went all-in. Braving these uncertain times with no home. No spouse, or significant other. No children, no savings, no sponsors. Living out of an aging SUV for two years, with my two longtime pets as my only companionship. I am resourceful, so I have sought out help but to no avail. You see, I am the exception: I am an educated adult, drug and alcohol-free. I am as mentally stable as one could be, but outside of government food programs, there are no support groups or aid for someone like me. So I suffer in silence. Aches, swelling, numbness, bruises; emotional and physical because people have always believed in me. When they learn of my situation, they often offer me money, but I do not accept because I can earn money on my own. Instead of taking someone’s pocket money that could be going toward someone else in dire need, I would rather wait to be graced with a blessing that puts me closer to my immediate goals which is to find an RV for shelter, and to finish my degree/certification. Hindered by my credit rating due to unpaid student love and, and medical bills.

You have requested a compelling story, and in all honesty it does not get any more compelling than this. I am deserving, but forgotten.

I wish to thank you RV Advisor for this opportunity, and I truly hope that your winning selection is more deserving than I because win or lose, I am on my path to greatness. I will do my part to help make the world a better place because that is my true purpose in life.
