I am submitting my case simply to showcase how bad camping world is / can be. This is not repair based. Back on March 16th of this year, my wife and kiddos went to camping world of Sherman TX. Mainly just to look around. But, we found a camper we liked and started process of purchasing. We went home and dropped off the kids and grabbed a truck to haul back the camper. Camper is going through make ready while we are signing all of the paper work. Final price after tt&l and down payment was a bit over $14k. We go do a final walk through and they are showing us all of our keys. Then we run into problem #1. Keys don’t work. No biggie. We continue the walk through. Then someone comes up and says here are your keys. So we hooked up and headed home. Well, we get home and there are some problems. The refrigerator cover on the exterior is gone. They never put it back on, or did a shoddy job and did not put it on correctly. Then, come to find out, we were given the wrong keys again. Annoying but whatever. I call them Monday and the service department says to bring it in. I take it back up there the following Saturday. Service guy tells me it will be 3-4 weeks before they can LOOK at it. By now I’m starting to get mad. I said why, it needs a cover and some keys. How could that possibly take that long? Another guy steps in and says they will get to it that week since I had just bought it the weekend before. I call them that week and bug them for the status a few times. The one call I receive from them is that I need to bring the camper in for the inspection so they can order my plates and tags. You’re kidding right? Why didn’t they do that when we bought it? And it’s CURRENTLY AT YOUR LOCATION! Mind blown! THREE weeks later they call to tell me it’s ready to go. So I go in to pick it up. They still had not done the inspection. So i hook up so they can do the inspection. Meanwhile, they show me what they’ve done. They bring out brand spanking new keys. Only this time, one of 3 works. The key to open the outdoor shower worked. Any real key that should do anything to lock it up still did not work! So they decide to just switch out the locks. Guess what…. they don’t have any there! My camper still has no way of locking up to this day! So they finished the inspection so i could take off. Oh but wait, there’s more! We get our first statement in the mail. It shows a loan amount of $24k and change!!! My wife and I were dumbfounded by this. At this point I am absolutely livid. I call and get no return call. I call the back the loan is through and ask if they can tell me anyting. I send an email to the finance guy we worked with. Turns out he added in about $10k in warranties. I guess he didn’t think it important to tell us these things that were all in the fine print when signing. He assured me that it’s not a problem and that we can just cancel all of them. I told him how shady of a deal that was and how unbelievably angry we were about it. So we email back and forth a few times but he can never get his scanner to work. At least the attachments wouldn’t print on my end. But whatever. On May 3rd, my wife and I go up there and sign all of those papers in person. A few days later I ask him when we should see the credits for these. He told me 6-8 weeks. Ok, cool. A couple of weeks later I get a call from a woman up there asking us to bring the camper in for the inspection. Again. I said no. I’m not going to do that. You lost the paperwork. You can find it, make one up, or come to me to do it. Never heard back from her again. Fast forward a few weeks and still no credits to the loan. I start calling and emailing anyone I can. The finance guy we dealt with decided to just not show up to work anymore as it turns out. The store manager assures me a check was sent out on 6/13. A credit eventually shows up for $1200. Ummm, you’re around $8500 shy there bucko. I call them, leaving messages, I send emails and nothing. I call their corporate office and they say they will look into it. Nothing. I start bashing them on social media and lo and behold, a response! It takes me emailing Marcus Lemonis (supposedly) through FB. A lady calls me and tells me she is checking into the situation for me and will have the store manager call me. This is on Wednesday, July 31st. I didn’t get a call from him so I called this lady back on Friday August 2nd. Then he calls me. He has his story of the mess that was left by the guy who quit and they were working on it. I ask about the tags and he says that they can’t get them because they seem to have lost the title to the trailer. This is a joke right? Nope. Then how did you even get me the loan for the thing???!!!??? He says they are working on it. That is still unresolved as of today, 8/8. So, I am still needing all locks replaced as well as needing the license plate / tags. On a slight up tick, a credit showed up yesterday for around $8400. So that’s a plus. Right? We are nearly 5 months in and still can’t even use it. We had plans for some traveling this past summer vacation. All of those plans were ruined. The kiddos go back to school next week. Thanks a lot cw.
Anyways, I’m not looking for any free services or anything. I just want to get my story to people who might be considering cw. It has been a horrible experience in all. If it wouldn’t destroy our credit I would go drop the thing off at their front door and never look back. Feel free to post this on your website(s).
Thanks for listening,
