The pros and cons of RV life

The pros and cons of RV life

RVs are a great way to see the country

You can head out on an adventure for a few weeks or months at a time and then come back for home comforts. But as more people look to living on the road, travelling the world earning money on the go, an RV can become their permanent home. Living in an RV full time comes with its advantages and downsides. In this post we are discussing the pros and cons, to help you get a better idea as to whether the lifestyle is for you.

The pros

Freedom

Of course, the major benefit is the freedom to go wherever, whenever. When your home is on wheels, there is nothing stopping you from moving from one place to another. If you are not the type looking to settle down, living in an RV can be a great way to explore as you can find RV parking spaces just about anywhere.

Affordability

Although RVs can be quite expensive to buy, they do not come with the added costs a house does. Mortgages, energy bills and insurance are a thing of the past – making RV living incredibly affordable. The money you save on traditional monthly outgoings can be used for experiences and adventures.

The chance to travel
The RV lifestyle gives you the chance to travel. Many people have learnt to make a living from travelling and you could too. You can create a whole life of memories and adventure by setting off on the open road and seeing where life takes you.

Social preferences

With life on the road, you do not have to deal with noisy neighbors. In fact, if you do not want to be around people at all and just want to enjoy the peace and quiet, you can.
Alternatively, if you are a social butterfly and love the idea of making friends around the world, you can pitch up in the best locations to suit your socializing preferences.

The Cons
Naturally, with all good things, there are also downsides:

Healthcare

Finding insurance without a permanent residence can be tricky and finding a good doctor on the road is not easy. If you prefer the security of healthcare, it might be worth considering staying home.

Distance from family and friends

Life on the road might mean you miss out on the chance to see family and friends. Building strong connections while travelling all the time can be difficult. There are, however, RV community groups that can help. Distance is definitely something to think seriously about if you are typically a family orientated person.

Storage

It is unlikely that an RV will be in use all year long, as usually these vehicles are seasonal and get most of their use during the nice summer months. This means that for the majority of the year, owners are going to have to think of a way to store the vehicle. It’s not as simple as leaving it on your driveway, as some properties might not have a large enough space to accommodate it. Furthermore, leaving the RV out in the open can entice thieves, and it also leaves it vulnerable to the weather.

For a more permanent RV parking spaces solution, owners can turn to storage facilities that would be able to house the vehicle and keep it safe all year round before you want to use it again. Just remember, there are plenty of things you need to do first before putting an RV in storage, such as draining excess fuel and removing any valuables.

Unexpected costs

The price of parking your RV can seriously vary from spot to spot. You can mitigate these costs by joining an RV group that offers discounts on certain parks.

Other unexpected costs come in the form of maintenance and repairs. As you will be travelling a lot, your RV could easily break or get damaged. Maintenance and repairs for RVs can often cost quite a lot, so you need to make sure you have an emergency budget.

Generally speaking, those choosing the open road never look back. With the freedom to travel everywhere and anywhere, RV life can be the perfect solution to having a fulfilling and adventurous life. Be sure you are covered by a great Extended Warranty plan as well!
