8 Ways to Stay Fit While RVing

8 Ways to Stay Fit While RVing

Staying in good shape while traveling is often much easier said than done

While you may intend to stick to your fitness routine, sometimes this proves difficult. In addition to a cramped RV that doesn’t exactly lend itself to working out, your outside choices can be limited. Sure, you can find hiking trails almost everywhere, but what if you don’t like to hike? Or, perhaps you’re taking a long trip, and after a week of daily hiking, you’re ready for something different? Fortunately, hiking isn’t the only option you have while out on the road, and there are lots of other things you can do.

1. Walking

While it may not be as strenuous as hiking, walking can be a very effective exercise. Wherever you’re RV is located, surely you can find a nice place to walk, whether it’s just around the park or perhaps to some nearby shops or attractions.

2. Biking

Riding a bike gives you an excellent workout, and it’s also a great way to see the sights. Of course, you’ll need to bring a bike with you, and this means finding space for it inside your RV or mounting it on a bike rack. You also don’t want to forget a helmet and any other safety components you may need. Click here to find a bike rack for minivan.

3. Swimming

It’s often said that swimming is the best exercise not only because it engages so many muscles, but because it’s also low impact. And while a chlorinated pool may be nice, a river, lake, or the ocean can provide you with a great place to swim.

4. Dancing

Who says exercise can’t be fun? In addition to burnings some calories, dancing can be a terrific way to relax, especially if you’ve been driving all day. Once you get to your destination, turn on the tunes (but not too loud), put on your dancing shoes, and dance the night away.

5. Climbing

Rock climbing isn’t for everybody, and people who have problems with heights should probably avoid it. But, like swimming, it uses quite a few different muscles, so it provides a strenuous workout. Just be sure you know what you’re doing and use the right safety gear and equipment.

6. Play some games

There are tons of things you can bring with you that can supply a lot of fun and at the same time provide great physical activity for everyone. A football, Frisbee, whiffle ball set, or soccer ball are just some ideas. Plus, none of these items will take up much room at all in your RV.

7. Find a gym

Many RV sites have facilities that can help you stay in shape. Often, you’ll find a pool, tennis court, or even a complete gym. But even if none of those things are available, you may not be out of luck. If you are a member of a gym that has locations all over the U.S., you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding one on your trip.

8. Use the great outdoors

If all else fails, you can create your own gym of sorts wherever you are. Using your own body weight, you can do a variety of different exercises, including squats, lunges, and planks. You can also utilize the things around you, such as your RV’s roof ladder as a pullup bar.

Keeping active while out on the road may seem like a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. By planning ahead and being creative, you can have a fun and fitness-filled trip. For more tips about living the RV lifestyle, check out all of our informative articles.
