Traveling in an RV can be a wonderful experience with lots of sites to see and activities to enjoy. So much so, that we can forget to plan our sleeping arrangements. Reservations may have never been made, or your trip took longer than expected and you haven’t reached your overnight camping spot. Well, whenever one of these things happen, and you don’t have a place to spend the night, Walmart offers a solution.

Free Overnight Camping at Walmart

That’s Right! Walmart does not only offer camping supplies, it’s also a little known fact that they offer free overnight camping. Certain Walmart locations throughout the country will allow motorhome campers to hunker down and rest in their parking lots. Keep in mind, many Walmart locations do NOT allow overnight parking, and you may find yourself being awakened by security.

As with any “campsite”, remember to keep your area clean and practice good campground etiquette. Also, keep in mind that there are no water or utility hook-ups at the Walmart store parking lots. Make sure to check with the store’s management in order to find an RV friendly parking spot as well.

And one last thing, even though these Walmart stores allow free overnight camping for RVers, it is still illegal in some cities and states, so you want to double check that too!
